National Panchayat Day observed at Khetri by Dept of Rural Development, USTM


Khetri, 24 April 2018: When National Panchayat Day is being celebrated today throughout the country to remember the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution that empowers the village as the most powerful institute in the administration system, the Department of Rural Development, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) in association with the State Institute of Panchayat & Rural Development (SIPRD) Assam organized a special Gram Sabha meeting in Khetri Panchayat & Barkhat Panchayat of Dimoria Block of Assam on the occasion.

The meeting was presided over by the President of the Gaon Panchayat in presence of the Mr. Khageswar Pegu, Director of SIPRD, the UNICEF coordinator, World Bank representatives and representatives from Social Welfare & Education Department of Assam. Water, Sanitation, Education & Nutrition were the main focused agenda of the Gram Sabha where the members interacted and discussed about the significance of these four elements in making village life a healthy life.

The meeting was followed by the felicitation of the elderly person who contributed towards the development of the respective village by the faculties of Department of Rural Development. On this occasion, Gunuram Deka & Dipak Kumar Tamuli from Barkhat Panchayat and Moina Patar and Rabindranath Deka from Khetri Panchayat were felicitated for their endless contributions towards the village development.
