USTM to Lead DST Inspire Camp for 100 Science Students from NE


GUWAHATI, 3 May 2018: On an inspiring note for science students from the north-eastern states, the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya is organizing a “DST Inspire Internship Camp” for 10+2 science students from 21 to 25 May 2018. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has entrusted USTM to identify 100 brilliant students from the region for this residential 5 day-long Internship Camp and inculcate scientific temperament and innovation skill among the students instigating them towards research on various issues of science and technology.

Dr Ajmal Barbhuiya, Academic Registrar of USTM said that the internship camp will help the budding talents of the North East to be aware of the vast opportunities from the field of academics, research and development, engineering, medical science, social entrepreneurship and other domains of knowledge. “It will help them chose their appropriate area of interest which will in turn enable them excel in their career. USTM has come forward to host this flagship program of DST for the second time for the students of North East India”, he said.

The programme will encourage intense and open interactions between the students and resource persons to exchange knowledge on every relevant subject. The students will be given special coaching by expert and well experienced faculty members for the subjects of Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geography. “We are requesting different schools and colleges to furnish a list of top ranking students from class XI (Science Stream) and email to or call 0361-2895070/70860 13838. All the participants of the camp will be provided free accommodation and food, he added. It can be mentioned here that since inception, USTM has been directing all its efforts to create the much needed science and technology manpower to foster relentlessly the economic and social development of the region in an inclusive manner.
