Need of the hour is to recall the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore: Dr Pathak


9th Mile, Ri Bhoi, May 9, 2018: The 157th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore has been celebrated today at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya with great fervor. The function was organized by the Cultural Forum, USTM. Prof Kulendu Pathak, former Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Dr Barun Saha, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Cotton University and Ms Somdutta Bhattacharjee, a renowned singer were present as a distinguished guests on the occasion along with Dr RK Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM, faculty members and a large number of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kulendu Pathak, Former VC, Dibrugarh University said that there is much relevance of Rabindranath’s ideology and thinking in the present day India since he was the thinker who thought much ahead of his time. He asked the students to explore the multifaceted Nobel laureate who has contribution in almost all sphere of knowledge. He has mentioned the name of a book comprising the essays written on science by Tagore, a part of his interest in science mostly unknown to the world.

In his address Dr Barun Saha, emphasized on another part of Rabindranath Tagore as a doctor of Homeopathy, the knowledge he has gathered and helped as a landlord to the poor villagers, cultivators and boatmen living in his territory. Dr Saha also emphasized on some of the writings of critiques of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Ms Somdutta Bhattacharjee focused on the lyricist Tagore, who has a song for every moment and emotion of human life. A distinguished singer, Ms Bhattacharjee mentioned about some of the songs of Tagore that were influenced by European lyricist and also sang some for the audience. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Lopamudra Neog the Cultural Officer of the university.
