GUWAHATI, 17 July, 2018: On the occasion of the
150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the
International Centre for Gandhian Studies (ICGS) is
organising an international conference on “Mahatma
Gandhi’s Vision and Contemporary Political Leadership in
North East India” scheduled on 5th and 6th October 2018
at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.
The organisers have called for papers from scholars and
all interested individuals for the Conference that will
be participated by eminent Gandhain scholars and reputed
academicians from across the globe.
Dr Alaka Sarma, Pro VC, USTM and the Convener of the
Conference stated, “Though the Government of India has
made special policies for the development of the region
yet the ground reality tells us that something is not
right. We would like to look at the politico-social
developments from the Gandhian perspective, and explore,
if we can evolve a way forward. India’s North East being
a conflict prone zone, the Gandhian focuses on peace and
methods of conflict resolution have more relevance.”
Dr Sarma said that research scholars, college teachers
and all interested are invited to come and participate
in the deliberations and present papers on themes (not
limited to): Peace and Conflict, Rural Economy,
Cooperative Federalism, Social Cohesion, Cattle
Protection, Industrialization, Infrastructure
Development, Political Ideology, Religion and Society,
Gender Issues in Society, Law and Justice, Cultural
Nationalism, Media and Social Change, Ethics and
Morality, Decolonization, Hind Swaraj, from Swaraj to
Suraj. The abstract for papers can be emailed to
icgsconf2018@gmail.com before 15th of August. ICGS is a
