Meghalaya Governor to grace
International Conference on Gandhi at USTM

SHILLONG, September 27, 2018: Meghalaya Governor
Tathagata Roy today said that he will inaugurate the
International Conference on ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s Vision and
Contemporary Political Leadership in North East India’
on 5th October at the University of Science & Technology
Meghalaya (USTM). The Governor agreed to the request of
Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of University of Science &
Technology, Meghalaya who visited the Raj Bhawan in
Shillong today to welcome the Governor to the state of
Meghalaya on behalf of the students and faculty of RIST
and USTM, two premier educational institutions run by
the ERD Foundation in Meghalaya. Shri Roy inquired about
the progress of the University and expressed happiness
to know about the growth and performance of USTM.
The international conference is being organized by the
International Centre for Gandhian Studies, a constituent
of USTM on 5th and 6th October on the occasion of the
celebration of 150th birth anniversary of the Father of
the Nation. Eminent Gandhain scholars and reputed
academicians will participate in the Conference.
Since the Governor also happens to be the ex officio
Visitor to USTM, the Chancellor gave an update to him
recalling the history of the institution, its various
achievements over the years, as well as plans and
programmes for the coming years. Hoque informed that
service to the entire North East in general and
Meghalaya in particular is a priority before the
University. He also informed the Governor that more than
1,100 students from Meghalaya are presently studying in
USTM among its 5,000 plus students.
Apart from the Chancellor, the USTM delegation included
Dr RK Sarma, Advisor of USTM, Dr Pradip Kumar Baruah,
Head of the Department of Botany, Dr Alpana Choudhury,
Director Youth Affairs, and Ifegenia Kharkrang, OSD,
USTM. |
