Teacher Must Play the Role
of a Motivator: Meghalaya Governor

The Meghalaya Governor Sri Ganga Prasad handed over 40
excellence awards to selected faculties and departments
of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM)
at the ‘Annual Performance Day 2017’ organized by the
university here today. The awards have been instituted
by USTM to encourage the teachers and recognize their
contribution for educational development.
Delivering the awards that included a package of
Certificates, Rs 10,000 cash, to and fro airfare to
Singapore, interest free car loan and 10 days paid
leave, Sri Ganga Prasad said that teachers have many
responsibilities and they must play the role of a
motivator for the students. “Teachers have to prepare
the students in such a way that students can contribute
to the progress of a region and the country as a whole,
apart from brightening their own career”, he said. He
praised the USTM faculties for their excellent work as
teachers and urged all to work united for the
development of the nation.
The Meghalaya Governor said that the state is a resource
rich one and, therefore, innovations are possible in the
field of medicines, crops which at the same time can
contribute towards development of rural areas. He also
urged the researchers and scientists to invent things
that would serve the society and the humanity.
Earlier, welcoming the Governor and all the
participants, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque said, “Our
philosophy is that teachers can who build an
institution, not the promoter”. He said that the Annual
Performance Day is a unique function where the
University encourages the teachers for good work and to
achieve excellence.
The Awards were: USTM Mission Award received by three
faculties, three overall Best Departments, Best
Disciplined Department, Best Growing Department, Best
Social Media Award, No Absent Award to six faculties,
three Most Smart Head of the Departments, Best Project
Award and Top 30 Faculty (overall) Award.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury,
Vice Chancellor, USTM said that the most important part
of a university is creativity. He expressed his
gratefulness to the Governor for coming to honour the
achiever faculties. The Governor also released the
Centre for Audit and Performance Evaluation (CAPE)
Report 2017 in the function, which is conducted every
year in the University.
