World Telecommunication and Information Society Day observed at RIST

To raise awareness of societal changes brought about by the internet and new technologies and to help reduce the digital divide, the department of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics Communication & Engineering of Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) has celebrated the “World Telecommunication & Information Society Day – 2017” at its Techno city Campus on 17th May 2017.
More than 300 Schools & College Students including a large number of students from various engineering and polytechnic institutes of the region have participated in the program. To mark the day, two workshops one on “Introduction to Electronics & Communication” and the other on ‘Data Arrangement’ were organised. In addition, a Gaming Competition for School students, Display of Activity Gallery, Circuit Design Competition and Science Model Competition, has also been organized to make the day fruitful for the participants.
A live interactive session was also held on the theme “Big Data for Big Impact” for WTISD – 2017. The basic idea was to focus on the power of Big Data for over all development and to explore how to turn imperfect, complex, often unstructured data in to actionable information thereby triggering societal progress.
The event was graced by host of eminent personalities which include Mr. Prabir Mohan Dastidar Retd. IGP (Wireless Communication Assam), Syed Mubidul Hussain, Zonal Business Head (Aircel Assam), Mr. Ranjit Barua (NW Head Aircel Assam), Dr. P.G. Rao, Vice Chancellor, USTM, Shri N. I. Laskar, PR Consultant, Prof. U.K Sarma, Executive Director, RIST and Dr P C Mahanta, Director, RIST . The dignitaries had taken part in various important sessions of the day and enlightened the young and budding student participants coming from a large number of educational institutes.
