NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY CELEBRATED at USTM

USTM, May 11, 2017: National Technology Day is a very special day for Indian Technology since 1999. It is so significant because India achieved a huge technological advancement on the day. The first, indigenous aircraft “Hansa-3” was test flown at Bangalore on this day. Not only this, India also performed successful test firing of the Trishul missile on the same day. India also executed three successful nuclear tests, carried out at Pokhran, in Rajasthan May 11. Being a University dedicated to science & technology, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) has also celebrated the day under the theme of this year, ‘Technology for inclusive and sustainable growth’ with a day long program. The department of Computer Science & Electronics and the department of Physics have jointly organised a Poster Presentation Competition and Open Oratory Competitions among the students to mark the day. Besides a formal function was also held where Mr. Khurshid Alom, Squadron Leader, Indian Air-Force was present as a distinguished speaker.

While addressing the students Mr Alom said that, more students should come forward and attempt for Indian Air Force services. There are many lucrative job opportunities in defence services. In the interactive session the students have clarified many of their doubts about the Indian defence service examinations with Mr Khurshid Alom.
The prizes were also presented to the winners of Poster Presentation Competition and Open Oratory Competition during the formal function. The winners of the first prize of the Poster Presentation Competition were Eragdaw Basumatary and Rakesh G Chetry from the department of Physics where as Upasana Das from the Department of Computer Science & Electronics has won the first prize in Open Oratory Competition
