While addressing the audience Shri Conrad Sangma said that his late father had taken a lot of effort in the expansion and establishment of educational institutions in various parts of Meghalaya. “My father was a visionary man, wanted to nurture the young minds through education and I am very happy that USTM is emerging as one of the premier universities in Meghalaya, catering quality education to far flung areas of North East”. ‘I also feel happy that Sh. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM had gone ahead to designate an international block in the name of my father and that a Centre for Tribal Studies, is in the pipeline which my father had always desired to make it happen so that the voices of the tribal people can be made heard and recognized at par with the mainstream”.
Shri James K Sangma in his address stated ‘ I feel honored while laying the foundation stone of this upcoming PA Sangma International Block, because an eminent leader like P A Sangma who himself had always loved the teaching profession and now his name will be echoed and reflected in the entire ambience of this university when this International Block will stand erect”. He was also hopeful that the Centre for Tribal Studies at USTM will be extremely beneficiary for the tribal people as well as researchers of North East to minimize the sense of alienation that still exists between the tribal and the non-tribal.
“It is a very emotional moment for me as the Late renowned leader PA Sangma who was a mentor and well wisher of ERD Foundation, the sponsor of USTM has always extended his help and support in the expansion and development of this institution and visited us several times.
