An unique of its kind the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) has organized the 2nd North East College Magazine Competition recently and the results were announced officially in the Guwahati Press Club on May 29, 2017. The prizes of the competition will be ceremonially distributed during the occasion of USTM Public Relations Day in the last week of June 2017.
The Publication Cell of the varsity organized the competition in order to encourage young upcoming writers, editors, layout designers of different college magazines from across the northeastern region. More than 200 colleges of all over North east have participated in the competition.
In the Best Magazine Comeptition category, magazines of Digboi College, “Alochoni”; JB College, “Jabian” and Lakhimpur Girls College, “Lakhimpur Girls College Magazine” were adjudged as the three best entries in the competition. The editorial committees of these magazines would receive a desktop each besides certificates and mementoes. Other awards announced were – Best Cover Page: Cotton College, Guwahati; Best Woman Editor: Dipshika Baruah, Digboi College; Best Women Writer: Priyanka Nath, K C Das Commerce College, Guwahati and Best Article : Manas Pratim Rajbanshi, Nalbari College.
Special Jury Awards went to: St Anhthony’s College, Shillong, Meghalaya and Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, Nagaland.
The members of the Jury for selection were Shri PJ Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune; Shri N I Laskar, former Executive Editor of ‘The Eastern Chronicle’, Shri Bijoy Ghimire, the Editor of magazine ‘The Mileage’ and Prof Nilima Bhagawati, the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, USTM was the internal jury member.
The Chancellor USTM, Shri Mahbubul Hoque while praising the talents of the youth of North East region said that, the students should be encouraged time to time for their creative works and a colorful prize distribution ceremony will be organized very shortly.
