9th orientation programme at RIST focuses on competitiveness and self motivation

Guwahati, 3rd Aug 2017: The 9th orientation programme of the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) Meghalaya was held at Techno City, Ri Bhoi District on the outskirts of Guwahati on Thursday. About 300 newly admitted students and their parents participated in the daylong programme that consisted of, among other things, motivational talks, student-teacher interactions, and parent-teacher dialogues.

Delivering the welcome address on the occasion, Dr HK Barua, Director, Academic Affairs, Education Research Development Foundation (ERDF), informed the gathering about the excellent ambiance of the RIST campus and the state of the art infrastructure that ensures every student a bright and successful career ahead of them. Earlier, the students presented a welcome song following which dignitaries were felicitated by the officials and teachers of RIST.

Addressing the gathering, Mahbubul Hoque, Chairman ERDF & Chancellor, USTM, said that all educational institutions under ERDF are being geared up to emerge as national level institutions by 2025 and as international destinations by 2030. The present facilities in the complex are being developed and improved in such a way that there will be no parallels in any institute of the North East in the coming years. Brig (retd) Ranjit Borthakur SM, Director USTM & Adviser ERDF, assured the students that no stones will be left unturned to make them the most competitive youngsters of the region through vigorous core and skills training.

The chief guest, Prof PK Bora, Deputy Director, IIT Guwahati wished the students good luck in their pursuit of higher education and reminded them to serve the country with passion after passing out from the Institute.

Four students of RIST, viz Sudipta Nayan Puzari (CE), K Vitoka Awomi (EEE), Ankur Jyoti Phukan (CSE), and Souvik Dey (CE), who cleared the GATE Examination recently, were given cash award of Rs 50,000 each. The awards were handed over by the Dignitaries present on the dais. Souvik Dey spoke on behalf of all the awardees and thanked the faculty and management whose dedication made it possible for them to clear the coveted GATE Examination.

In his presidential remark, Prof NK Choudhury, former VC Gauhati University & Principal Adviser ERDF, urged the students to think out of the box and plan for careers in emerging fields of enterprise and research so that their contributions will be admired and remembered for all times to come.

The inaugural session came to an end with the formal vote of thanks offered by Dr P C Mahanta, Director, RIST.

The second session consisted of a motivational talk delivered by Nurul Laskar, leading PR consultant; sharing of experience by successful alumni of RIST; a parent-management dialogue moderated by DR HK Barua, Director Academics RIST; and a student-teacher interaction session moderated by Dr AH Barbhuiya, Registrar, RIST and others.
